My time in London included working with Homeless People, an experience which reshaped my life. Always engaged with social and political issues, I was involved in projects with emerging Black Churches, Community and Race Relations, Homelessness, Alcoholism, and was a founding member of Crisis at Christmas (Crisis) and CHAR – the then national campaign for Single Homeless People.
Working in teams marked the 70s and 80s for me and I enjoyed the chemistry of creative people interacting. The Bow Mission team had a particular vitality and a willingness to take risks. Amid the mistakes some remarkable things occurred. The initiatives taken at the Bruce Road Church led to a chain of events which transformed one forgotten corner of Bow. It also transformed me, in that I innocently joined a woodcarving class and immediately fell in love with wood and woodcarving.
My last job was as an ecumenical City Centre Chaplain in Milton Keynes. What a delight that was. Upon retirement (2001), my first task was to build a carving studio in the garden of our new home.
My previous website has its own Bonhoeffer page. This has moved to it own site – www.bonhoeffer-uk.com.
Other loyalties: Football - West Ham, Cricket - Somerset, and Timothy Taylors!
